چکیده

This paper investigates fair (i.e., envy-free and efficient) allocations in an overlapping generations economy without production with two-period lived agents. We show that there is a conflict between no-envy efficiency when all have identical preferences. crucially depends on the size of given young age consumption initial old generation relative to at golden-rule. then exist non-stationary preferences for which such does not arise, regardless generation. Cooperation in an Overlapping Generations Experiment

Recent theoretical work shows that folk theorems can be developed for infinite overlapping generations games. Cooperation in such games can be sustained as a Nash equilibrium. Besides the efficient cooperative equilibrium there is also the inefficient non-cooperative equilibrium. This paper investigates experimentally whether cooperation actually occurs in a simple overlapping generations game....

An overlapping-generations model with search

Search is embeded in an overlapping-generations model. Young people participate a centralized market and a decentralized market sequentially and olds only participates the centralized market. The demographic feature allows analytical tractability. In a series examples, positve inflation rates are Pareto optimal. JEL classification: E31

Overlapping Generations and Environmental Policy: An Introduction

A small but growing body of literature uses overlapping generations (OLG) models to study environmental policy for long-lived problems such as climate change. An OLG model, unlike the infinitely lived representative agent model, distinguishes between impatience with respect to one’s own future utility, and attitudes toward successors’ utility. I discuss the problem of time inconsistency, the ro...

An Overlapping Generations Model of Electoral Competition

This paper presents a dynamic model of political competition between two "parties" with different policy preferences. A "party" is explicitly modelled as a sequence of overlapping generations of candidates, all of whom face finite decision horizons. In general, there is a conflict between the interests of the individual policymakers and those of the "party" , which includes subsequent generatio...

Finding Fair and Efficient Allocations

We study the problem of allocating indivisible goods fairly and efficiently among a set of agents who have additive valuations for the goods. Here, an allocation is said to be fair if it is envy-free up to one good (EF1), which means that each agent prefers its own bundle over the bundle of any other agent, up to the removal of one good. In addition, an allocation is deemed to be efficient if i...
